Take The Wheel is a song performed by Jane Facciano, Buddy Aldridge, Susan, and the Rydell student body in the Paramount+ original series, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies.
Overview
Jane challenged Buddy to an unofficial debate at the Frosty Palace, and they sang their stances in "Take The Wheel". Jane won the debate, though Buddy fell off a counter and broke his arm in front of everyone.[1]
Lyrics
[Jane]:
They get way more than they deserve
Like taking all our lockers first
Yeah, basically they get away with murder
The PTA is in their pocket
Picking favorites, no one stops it
But with me, their golden age is over
Call me crazy, but their time is up
([All]: up)
Smash the system, we have had enough
I see a new way to ride at Rydell
I'll take the wheel until we're cruising
Where outcasts live just like everyone else
I'll take the wheel
Sugar sweet for every, everybody
Not just queens and kings with lots of money
I see a new way to ride at Rydell
I'll take the wheel
[Buddy]:
Juvenile delinquency and rampant immorality
It leads to crime and anarchy and danger
So you think you thought it through
But that's what it leads to
Communism is their favorite flavor
([All]: Boo!)
I admit that things have got to change
([All]: Sure)
([Olivia]: But what?)
But change ain't going to happen in a day
([All]: Boring)
I see a new way to ride at Rydell
I'll take the wheel, and then we'll...
And then we'll...
[Cynthia (speaking)]:
You'll...what?
[Buddy]:
And th-then we'll-
[Jane]:
Stop picking on the lower class
The wallflowers, iconoclasts
We're way over being your easy targets
The feminine machines are broke
The student council's on the ropes
The mother-daughter brunch is in the garbage
[Susan]:
Why you acting like his enemy?
You sang a different tune in his back seat
[Susan (speaking)]:
I mean, seriously, Jane? Who are you, really?
[Jane]:
A shameless nerd, ambitious girl
A rebel on the honor roll
A teacher's pet who's looking for good trouble
Italian and Puerto Rican
Let me be the voice of reason
There's not time like now to burst the bubble
You bet your ass I'll make the dance
A place that we're all welcome at
And rock and roll will burn this mother down
And you can wear just what you want
And no one's gonna tell you off
And rock and roll will burn this mother down
I see a new way to ride at Rydell
I'll take the wheel until we're cruising
Where outcasts live just like everyone else
I'll take the wheel
Sugar sweet for every everybody
Not just queens and kings with lots of money
I see a new way to ride at Rydell
I'll take the wheel
[Olivia (speaking)]:
What is it, Buddy? Should we phone your debate coach?
[Buddy]
I see a new way to ride at Rydell
I'll take the wheel!
