Brutal Honesty is a song performed by Nancy Nakagawa and the Angel of Fashion in the Paramount+ original series, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies.
Overview[]
After she messed up in her attempt to fix the Pink Ladies issues, Nancy planned to run away to New York. She was unexpectedly visited by her guardian angel, an Angel of Fashion, who told her not to leave Rydell, as she couldn't run away. They argued through the song, but he got across his point that she wasn't ready for NYC yet. She was needed at Rydell where she could make a difference, and most importantly, she still needed her friends. She was used to brutal honesty, having given it to her friends earlier. Before the Angel could leave, he needed her to brutally honest with herself, not just others. The song ended when he floated above the air and impaled himself with a sewing needle, which sent him through flames that opened on the ground.[1]
Lyrics[]
[Angel of Fashion]:
How interesting
You're sure it's your time
The dangerous part of youth
Is thinking you're in your prime
How interesting
You're hitting the road
But let me tell you something
Crystal, darling, don't go
[Nancy (speaking)]:
My name's not Crystal.
[Angel of Fashion]:
So fashion's meant to change the conversation
[Nancy]:
No, fashion's meant to change
My life and save it
[Angel of Fashion]:
Slow down
You're blistering my patience
Slow down
Brutal honesty
Girl, that's what you need
If you up and leave
You'll lose everything
Stay where you can be
The rise instead of the fall
Brutal honesty
Tee, hee hee hee hee
(Brutal honesty
Tee hee hee hee hee)
[Nancy]:
How interesting
You think I should quit
That's quite a proclamation
For someone who don't exist
[Angel of Fashion]:
Ha ha ha!
Oh, N.Y.C. will E-A-T you, baby
[Nancy (speaking)]:
So?
[Angel of Fashion]:
Sticking to your guns requires bravery
Hold out
Rydell needs your saving
And you still need your friends, baby
Brutal honesty
Girl, that's
What you need
If you up and leave
You'll lose everything
Stay where you can be
The rise instead of the fall
[Nancy]:
Brutal honesty's my middle name
Told all of my friends right to their face
What I think of them, and then did it again
It ended in disaster all the same
[Angel of Fashion]:
Ugh, before I transcend back to heaven or to hell
I need you to be brutally honest with yourself
[Nancy]:
Brutal honesty
Damn, that's what I need
If I up and leave
I'll lose everything
[Angel of Fashion & Nancy]:
Stay where you can be the rise
Instead of the fall
Brutal honesty
Tee, hee hee hee hee
(Brutal honesty
Tee hee hee hee hee)
Oh, brutal honesty
Tee hee hee hee hee
(Brutal honesty
Tee hee hee hee hee)
[Angel of Fashion (speaking)]:
You are the fantasy
My darling, darling Nancy
(Brutal honesty
Tee, hee hee hee hee)
Good luck to you
And don't...die.
(Brutal honesty
Tee hee hee hee hee)
